The situation
Thor was new to residential landscaping in Southern Ontario, with no website, no ads and no way for homeowners searching for landscaping to find them.
Thor had no one in-house for marketing or web development, so everything a homeowner would see had to be built from nothing. The first test was small: $1,400 in ad spend in 2023 turned into $375,000 in pipeline, and the schedule filled.
Thor is still a client. Since then the work has grown from landscaping into septic and excavation across Central Ontario and the Kawarthas.
What was built
- Paid ads
- Landing pages
- Website
- Forms
- Call tracking
- 01
Google Ads
Search campaigns reaching homeowners looking for landscaping in Thor's service area.
- 02
Facebook and Instagram ads
Local campaigns putting Thor in front of nearby homeowners.
- 03
Landing pages
Pages matched to each campaign's intent, so homeowners landed on the service they had searched for.
- 04
Website
A mobile-friendly site showing Thor's services, projects and expertise.
- 05
Forms
A contact form in May 2023, replaced in August by a multi-step form.
- 06
A competitor ad teardown
A record of the ads Thor's competitors were running, collected in November 2023.
- 07
Septic pages, town by town
A rebuilt septic page and eight town pages across Central Ontario and the Kawarthas, each with pricing rows and structured data for search.
- 08
A form that sorts the job first
The septic form asks the job type and the property location before anything else, so out-of-area and wrong-service requests sort themselves.
- 09
Calls counted
Phone clicks tracked on every page of the site.
- 10
Cleaner search traffic
A 1,102-term negative keyword list built from real search terms, and location targeting limited to people in the service area.
How it ran
2023
Website, landing pages, Google Ads, and Facebook and Instagram ads, built from scratch. A contact form in May and a multi-step form in August.
November 2023
A teardown of the ads Thor's competitors were running.
February 2024
Facebook and Google campaigns running, with every form entry tagged by campaign.
2026
The work grows into septic and excavation: town pages, a form that sorts the job first, call tracking and a cleaner search account.
October 2026
A new landscaping page live, tested against a second version.
The result
By 2025 Thor was doing $1.5M a year on $35K of ad spend, and Thor is still a client in 2026.
What carries over to your business
- 01
Send each ad to a page about the service it advertises, so the homeowner lands on what they searched for.
- 02
Count phone clicks as conversions. For a contractor, the call is often the lead.
- 03
Ask the job type and location first on the form, so out-of-area and wrong-service requests sort themselves before anyone calls back.
